He’ll be in a very familiar room but, for him, an unusual part of it.
Bay of Quinte riding MP-elect Chris Malette will be standing at the podium instead
of sitting at the Belleville council table Monday.
Malette, who until just a few weeks ago was a Ward 1 councillor for the city, will appear before
council as a delegation.
After delegations, council will move to declare his seat vacant and ask staff to bring back a report with
options on how to fill it.
When council has been faced with other vacancies recently, it has chosen to select the the person who
finished just out of the running in the last municipal election, and in this case that would be former councillor
Kelly McCaw.
Also speaking to council Monday will be Belleville Downtown District historian and author
Connie Carson.
She will be describing her third book about the city’s core. The book is named Facades on Front: The Lives and Legacies of Downtown Belleville.
Council meets at City Hall at 4 p.m.
