Belleville council will discuss increasing impound fees paid by animal owners to support the Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward (HSHPE) at its meeting Monday.
Society officials have appeared in front of local councils recently describing a tough financial situation due to rising demand for its services and lagging revenues.
Increasing impound fees paid by users to retrieve their animals would be one way to help balance its books.
City staff is recommending impound fees increase from $52 plus $25 for each subsequent offence, to a maximum of $100 to $100 plus $25 for each subsequent offence, plus $25 daily care fee for the extent of the five-day redemption period.
Council meets at 4 p.m. at City Hall.
