A man from Marmora is facing multiple charges including flight from police and drug and weapons charges.
On April 24 Belleville Police attempted a traffic stop involving a black Nissan KICKS rental vehicle, however, the driver fled.
Early on the morning of April 26, officers in the downtown core came across the same vehicle, occupied by two males, in a parking lot.
Police blocked the vehicle with their cruisers and observed open alcohol.
The driver attempted to run from police and resisted arrest.
A quantity of cocaine, packaging, and a BB gun were recovered from this investigation.
The driver, a 28-year-old male from Marmora was charged with flight from police, resist arrest, possession for the purpose of trafficking, weapons dangerous and other provincial offence act charges.
He was released on an undertaking with strict driving, drug, weapon and curfew conditions.
The passenger was arrested for possession for the purpose of trafficking, and weapons dangerous, along with an outstanding warrant.
The passenger’s name is not being released due to the domestic nature of the warrant.
Several hours after the driver’s release, Belleville police responded to an assault call in the city’s east end where they arrested the same 28-year-old Marmora man on a charge of assault.
Subsequent investigation revealed that the accused had obstructed police by impersonating a family member who did not have a criminal record.
The male had now been positively identified as 28-year-old Jayson Dow-West.
He was found to be on a conditional sentence order, breaching numerous conditions.
As a result, Dow-West is also facing two charges each of obstruct police and personation with intent and an allegation of breach of conditional sentence order was made.
He remains in custody.
