Firefighters in Picton responded to an early morning house fire on Sunday.
At approximately 12:45 am, firefighters from Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue were called to Cumberland Street, to find a house on fire.
The residents had already evacuated, and had called 911. Firefighters found the rear of the two storey house on fire when they arrived, and began battling the blaze. Firefighters were able to contain the fire, and limit damage to surrounding properties.
“The great work from our fire crews limited the damage to the neighbouring properties and knocked the fire down to keep most of the damage to the exterior and attic space,” stated Fire Chief Chad Brown.
There were no injuries reported. Damage is estimated at approximately $750,000. Firefighters are expected to remain on scene through the morning to monitor for hotspots and assist with the investigation.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
