Quinte West City Council approved the Quinte West Parks and Recreation Master Plan at its council meeting on Wednesday.
Council also asked city staff to revise the city’s 10-year capital plan with costs and recommendations as identified in the Parks and Recreation Master Plan.
The city began developing a new Parks and Recreation Master Plan in 2024 to provide strategic direction on how the city should invest in parks, open spaces and recreational facilities over the next 15 years.
A presentation was held by Danielle Lenarcic Biss, an associate with thinc design and Mary Catherine Mehak, with Mehak, Kelly & Associates.
The two outlined the vision for the plan, which includes a total of 124 recommendations that are prioritized over immediate, short-term (two to five years), medium-term (six to ten years), and long-term (11-15 years) objectives.
These recommendations span across four categories:
- Programs & Events
- Facilities (Indoor and Outdoor)
- Parks & Open Spaces
- Service Delivery
Some of the recommendations include upgrading existing facilities like the Batawa Community Centre as well as developing more pickleball and tennis courts.
It also calls for the hiring of a full-time community development staff person to oversee implementation.
You can read the full master plan at the City of Quinte West’s website.
