Belleville’s Planning Advisory Committee is recommending council approve a rezoning which could eventually lead to the
construction of a five-storey 66-unit condominium building near the downtown.
Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward-Hastings is planning to build on the property where the former Belleville Police Headquarters was and where the Children’s Safety Village still is, along Dundas Street East.
Chair of the committee, Councillor Paul Carr said charitable organization Habitat for Humanity is taking on a different kind of build than it is used to and is glad the city donated the land so it could see the project become a reality.
If finally approved, the zoning would change from regional commercial to special residential.
Habitat also hopes to build a daycare centre in an existing building used by the Safety Village.
