A local assistant Crown Attorney will become a judge with the Ontario Court of Justice.
The Ministry of the Attorney General announced Monday that Pardeep Bhachu who was called to the bar
in 2009 will become one of eleven new judges starting May 14.
Bhachu was an assistant Crown Attorney in Hastings and Prince Edward counties and prosecuted several
complex cases, including murder, sexual assault, and robberies, in both the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice.
She was the lead Crown in cases involving intimate partner violence and youth.
She also volunteered with the John Howard Society, the Ontario Justice Education Network, and the Hastings County Situation Table.
Crown Attorney in Hastings and Prince Edward counties Lee Burgess says Bhachu will be sorely missed but is certain she will be a dedicated and caring judge.
She has been assigned to Halton region.
