David Clazie is officially no longer the Chief Administrative Officer for the City of the Quinte West.
The announcement came from the city in a press release, saying the decision to remove Clazie was made pursuant to section 284.6(2) of the Municipal Act, or strong mayor powers.
Under the section, the head of council has “the power to hire, dismiss or exercise any other prescribed employment powers with respect to the head of any division or the head of any other part of the organizational structure.”
Quinte West was one of 169 municipalities across Ontario that was given access to strong mayor powers that came into effect on Thursday.
Clazie had stepped away from the role of CAO in December 2024. The reason was not known.
Director of Public Works and Environmental Services Chris Angelo has been the city’s interim CAO since Clazie stepped away from the role.
Angelo will continue to serve as interim CAO until the city fills the permanent position.
The city says more information about how they will fill the role will come as it’s available.
Clazie was the city’s CAO since July 2020.
Before becoming CAO, Clazie held the position of Director of Corporate and Financial Services and City Treasurer since 2003.
The City of Quinte West expressed its appreciation to Clazie for his contributions to the municipality in the release.
