The cause of a fire at an apartment building under construction on Sidney Street in Belleville has been determined.
“Investigators have determined it was caused by roofers doing their processes on the roof – it accidentally caught the roof on fire,” Deputy Fire Chief Mark Shannon tells Quinte News.
He says the fire caused an estimated $10,000 in damages.
Multiple fire trucks responded to the blaze Tuesday afternoon after black smoke could be seen coming from the building.
“The quick response isolated the fire to a small portion of the roof,” Shannon said.
“It shouldn’t cause much delay to the structure of the building either, it shouldn’t hold (construction) up.”
No injuries have been reported.
