Yes, we understand this has a Chicken Little/The Sky is Falling feel to it.
At the Bay of Quinte Home Show in Trenton this past weekend, Costco had a vendor booth selling memberships.
Several sources indicate a person working the booth said Costco would be opening in the Quinte region.
The date provided to us was July, 2026.
On Monday evening, another source told us of a request for proposal for backfill work for a Costco gas station.
Further to that, someone who asked not to be named, told us once ground is broken, the build could be done in less than a year and the project has “reactivated after a few years of quiet.”
Doing our due diligence, Quinte News contacted the multi-national company, but we have not heard a response.
A location was not provided to us, however, the one always circling the proposal was on Bell Boulevard West.
In 2019 and 2020, millions of dollars were invested by the City of Belleville in a project to widen Bell Boulevard West.
It included installing turning lanes at Sidney and Bell Boulevard.
Much of the talk around that project involved a location coming to The Friendly City.
At the Phase 2 ribbon-cutting in November 2020, then Mayor Mitch Panciuk spoke about the membership warehouse club’s interest in Belleville.
Audio Player“They are still very bullish on Belleville, they’re very interested. We continue to have conversations. It’s not a question of if, it’s when. Certainly, we’re so far ahead of schedule, it opens the door for them to start immediately.” (quote from November 2020)
Nothing has been confirmed by either the company or the municipality, however, we will continue reaching out.
