Retired journalist and two-term Belleville Councillor Chris Malette is the new Member of Parliament for the Bay of Quinte riding.
Malette unseated Conservative incumbent Ryan Williams.
The final polls shows the two parties combined for 95 per cent of the votes cast in Bay of Quinte.
Malette spoke at his campaign watch party at Belleville’s Sans Souci.

He says the riding has sent a message that we are Canada strong.
Audio Player“I’m ready to head to Ottawa to work with Mark Carney in protecting Canadian jobs, standing up for Canadian sovereignty, and championing policies that will benefit the people of our riding.”

Conservative Ryan Williams finished about 3,700 votes behind in the tight race.
From 2021, Williams’s votes increased, however, only five per cent of voters selected the Green Party or the NDP in 2025.
Audio Player“A lot more votes, across the country we saw the NDP, which had 14 per cent last time (2021) just collapse. It’s a tougher battle because you’re respectively becoming a two-party country. That means the votes are split up differently than before.”

Coming in third was the NDP’s Kate Crothers.
We chatted with Crothers from her wrap-up party in the county at Vic Social in Picton.
She says the threats and tariffs on display by the US President are something that Canadians do not want.
Audio Player“The style of government that Trump is showing in the United States is so clearly something that Canadians don’t want and seeing some of that echoed in the Conservatives, by some of the choices that they made, has really mobilized the left-of-centre and centre voters.”
