The Special Investigations Unit has been called in, following a crash in Centre Hastings overnight.
Around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, several calls came in from witnesses, about an erratic driver on Highway 7, in the Madoc area.
When crews discovered the vehicle, it had collided with a motorcycle, killing one person.
A 57-year-old has died, while the driver of the car, a 19-year-old, was not injured.
The highway was closed for more than 12 hours while crews investigated.
Tow trucks have been called in to remove the vehicles.
The OPP investigation is continuing with assistance from an OPP Collision Reconstructionist and Technical Collision Investigators from the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team.
As the SIU has invoked its mandate, the OPP will not be able to provide any further information.
- On the night of April 27, 2025, an Ontario Provincial Police officer was driving eastbound on Highway 7 in Madoc when he observed a vehicle traveling westbound at a high rate of speed. This same vehicle had been reported to police as driving dangerously.
- The officer proceeded to follow the vehicle.
- A short time later, in the area of Highway 7 and St. Lawrence Street West, the officer came across a collision between the vehicle of interest and a motorcycle.
- The 57-year-old motorcycle rider was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the vehicle did not suffer any serious injuries.
