The Lorne Brooker Show continued to showcase local candidates running to be the next Member of Parliament.
On Tuesday, Bay of Quinte Liberal candidate Chris Malette was the guest on Meet the Candidates.
Malette says while he once vowed to never get involved in party politics, this election is too important for him to sit idly by.
He spent years as a print journalist, including several years as the editor of the Belleville Intelligencer.
Most recently he’s been a Belleville city councillor, stepping away from the role to run in this federal election.
Malette believes his life experience and connection to the riding leaves him with a lot to offer.

Malette has full faith in Liberal leader Mark Carney saying this election is about who you trust to improve the lives of Canadians and to stand up to U.S. President Donald Trump and his trade war.

“A Carney government is not your former Liberal government. We are promising to bring a new era of prosperity to Canada. Mr. Carney’s got an affordable plan that’s Canada strong. It’s a priced out plan.”
Malette addressed other issues during the segment, noting the country still needs a national broadcaster.
He says while the Conservatives want to defund the CBC, Canadians, especially those in less populated areas, depend on it.

“When you start privatizing national broadcasters like that, all of a sudden they’re going, ‘Why have we got a little transmitter in Moose Creek or whatever?’ Because it broadcasts to maybe 230 people over a span of about 500km. That business model in any corporate boardroom is not supportable, but is it vitally important to our national fabric? Yes.”
Malette says Canada Post is also vital to serving the country and while it needs some tweaking, the Liberals will take steps to improve the service.
