Impaired driving charges were laid following a two-vehicle collision in Brighton last week.
Northumberland OPP responded to the incident involving a red Toyota SUV positioned behind a white Chevy SUV just after 9 p.m on Thursday.
After speaking with the uninjured drivers, police suspected the person who was found to be operating the Toyota had been consuming alcohol.
Police say the driver registered a fail on the roadside screening test and the individual was taken into custody and transported to the Brighton OPP Detachment where further testing was conducted.
Seventy-one-year-old Leon Devera was charged with the following:
- Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on May 21, 2025.
