Five of six people involved in a home invasion and kidnapping on the Tyendinaga Territory just over a year ago have been sentenced.
Last week in a Belleville courtroom, 45-year-old Jamie Kunkel of Tyendinaga pleaded guilty to assault and forcible confinement received an 18-month conditional sentence plus 12 months probation. He had previously served 22 days in custody.
Laura Lee Leveen, 43 and also from Tyendinaga, pleaded guilty to assault with a weapon and forcible confinement and received a similar sentence, however, she had served 95 days pre-sentence custody.
There was no finding of guilt against 42-year-old Blaine Branscombe or 37-year-old Ashley Cummings, both of Tyendinaga but they were given peace bonds.
The charges stemmed from a break-in to a house on January 28, 2024 in which a man was assaulted and held against his will in a vehicle for some time. He was not seriously injured.
In October of last year, 37-year-old Patrick Lennox of Napanee was sentenced to four months in jail and 18 months probation on assault and break and enter charges.
Thirty-four-year old Jordan Brant of Deseronto remains before the courts for his role in the incident.
