The tariff threats from U.S. President Donald Trump have caused a lot of concern but they’ve also turned out to be a big positive for some businesses, including local ones.
Sprague Foods, with operations in the county and in Belleville, makes various types of soup and other canned products and it has seen a big spike in interest in their products.
Speaking to CBC News, vice president of the 100-year-old family business Keenan Sprague says people now want to buy Canadian products and traffic to its website has increased exponentially and the company’s social media accounts have “exploded.”
However, because of the tariff threats, negotiations with American partners to expand the business have been put on hold until exactly what will happen is known.
