It was the American League version of the Sens and Pens in the first-of-two meetings in the Pennsylvania city this week. And thanks to a season high 35 saves by Leevi Merilainen, the Belleville Senators skated to a 4-1 win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
While Merilainan was a difference-maker in goal, Belleville’s third and fourth lines provided the offence. Coach David Bell:
Hayden Hodgson (3rd), Zach Ostapchuk (2nd), Xavier Bourgault (6th) and Max Guenette (6th) scored for the Senators.
The win moves Belleville into a tie with Syracuse for the final playoff berth in the AHL North. The B-Sens hold a game in hand.
It also kicks off a three game trip through Pennsylvania which takes them to the home of the two-time Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears tonight (Wed).
