Construction is underway for the new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital, and multiple local contractors have been brought in to work on the project.
M. Sullivan & Son Ltd. was awarded the contract for the new hospital construction in 2024 and will oversee the project until completion. Joining them are several local subcontractors including Drew Harrison Haulage, Otter Energy, Picton Home Hardware, Southside Sanitary Solutions, and Wentworth Landscapes.
These local teams will be responsible for specialized aspects of the construction including excavation, environmental sustainability and landscaping.
Tyler Blower, president of Otter Energy, said that he is proud to be working on a building that incorporates solar energy into the design, which is an important environmental sustainability enhancement.
“I am personally thrilled to be a part of such an important project. This is a building and a service that is so vital to our community, and I relish in the fact the solar panels will lower the electrical operating costs by an estimated $1.9 million over the life of the system while also eliminating over 2,000 tons of carbon,” said Blower.
The new hospital construction is expected to provide a number of jobs for local contractors, with an estimated 70 people working on-site daily during construction.
