With the snap provincial election just days away, Quinte News spoke to the green party candidate for Northumberland-Peterborough South, Maxwell Groves.
During the interview, Groves said he has several priorities if he is elected. One of those priorities is education, which he said is vital to keeping a strong economy.
“As someone who’s worked in public health for six years, I have a strong interest in health care and making sure that people from birth to death have the health care that they need,” said Groves. “And also housing. Because I’m a millennial, I’ve been acutely affected by the housing crisis, and I think it’s deplorable that an entire generation has been locked out of home ownership.”
He went on to say that people should vote for the Green Party because they have a long-term vision of how to build the province up.
“If you look at Doug Ford, he doesn’t really have a policy in place aside from trying to outlast Trump. We understand that this aggression from the south, it’s not going away. Things aren’t going back to normal,” said Groves. “We need to pivot, and the Green Party is perfectly positioned to do that.”
Groves was born and raised in Port Hope.
He currently works in IT, and in his free time is an active outdoorsman and conservationist.
The election is set to take place on Thursday.
