Usually a candidate has to wait around four years to have a second run at a provincial seat.
That is not the case for Belleville’s Amanda Robertson.
The candidate for the Ontario New Democrats was the guest on the Lorne Brooker Show’s Meet the Candidates on Tuesday morning.
Robertson, who ran in the by-election in the fall, discussed education, health care, tariffs, Donald Trump, and more.
She says the goal for a Member of Provincial Parliament should be to bring riding voices to Queen’s Park, not Queen’s Park voice to Bay of Quinte.
Audio Player“Nothing has changed about that. In fact I would say life is getting even harder, even since the by-election we’ve had people who have reached out who maybe voted Conservative in the by-election, who are like we are not seeing results, we are not seeing anybody delivering for people here in Bay of Quinte.”
Robertson has a master’s degree in occupational therapy, while her husband Andrew is a physician.
She says it is possible for residents in Ontario to get a family doctor.
Audio Player“We need to be graduating more health care providers, whether that’s nurse practitioners, family doctors. We also need to be improving the working conditions and creating an environment where they can see more patients and have more patient interaction.”
Brooker asked Robertson about Donald Trump and the ability to stand up to him.
Audio Player“Dealing with Trump is kind of like dealing with a hurricane or a natural disaster. It’s something that we can prepare for, but it really is about looking inwards at how resilient we are and how safeguarded we are as a community.”
