One man has been sentenced and another faces a sentencing hearing next month after being arrested
after a police investigation into a local organized cocaine trafficking syndicate in the spring of 2023.
Earlier this month Dwayne Lawrence of Belleville, 42 at the time of his arrest, pleaded guilty to possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of a restricted firearm.
He was sentenced to 2.5 years in jail on top of 1.5 years pre-sentence custody and a lifetime weapons ban.
And more recently Kurtis Mallette of Tyendinaga, 28 at the time of his arrest, pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a restricted firearm. He will be sentenced March 28.
Another man, Kody Mallette of Tyendinaga and 30 at the time of his arrest, is still before the courts.
Charges against Nicole Ferguson and Brenda-Lee Casselman were withdrawn.
Police seized two kilograms of cocaine, a Glock .45 calibre handgun, brass knuckles, and almost $14,000 in cash.
