While with the Ottawa Senators during a recent injury call-up, goaltender Leevi Merilainen was a standout.
Now back with the Belleville Senators Merilainen is setting records.
Despite being outshot 16-6 in the first period and 34-23 overall, Merilainen backstopped the B-Sens to a 3-0 win over the visiting Utica Cometsn for his third shutout of the season and franchise record fifth overall. Coach David Bell:

Instead, they get two and move two points behind fifth place Syracuse and the final AHL North Division playoff spot with four games in hand.
Bell also had praise for his third and fourth forward lines who accounted for Belleville’s offence.
Keean Washkurak (6th), Wyatte Wiley (2nd) and Cole Reinhardt (8th) provided goals.
Belleville is in Utica Wednesday night for their fifth meeting with the Comets in less than three weeks.
