Belleville City Council will be holding special council meetings on Thursday and Friday to discuss the 2025 draft operating budget.
At the last meeting, council was presented an overview of the draft operating budget by the director of finance and treasurer for the City of Belleville, Brandon Ferguson.
It outlines an increase to the tax levy of $11,883,700 or 9.4%.
However, the tax increase to residents would be under 5%.
A majority of the increase comes from Belleville Police Services, representing $2,862,400 or 2.26% of the tax levy increase.
Other impacts to the tax levy increase come from Contractual Service Agreements related to wages and contracts which represents 1.94% and Legislative Compliance or Health & Safety related to Belleville’s Asset Management Plan, representing 1.76%.
Some of the line items in the budget are the creation of the Family Physician Appreciation Fund, which shows an expenditure of $250,000 that is proposed to be funded from the Casino – Contingency Reserve Fund.
Discussion begins on Thursday at 9 a.m. at council chambers in Belleville City Hall.
