Central Hastings OPP say an initial report of an armoured van robbery in Tweed turned out to be a false alarm.
Just after 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, a Tweed resident called to report a potential robbery on Victoria Street North.
Police say an armoured van was parked outside a bank and loud bangs were heard.
The crew of the armoured van had taken cover, but soon discovered that someone had set off firecrackers nearby.
OPP arrived on scene and spoke with the individuals from the van and searched the area for witnesses.
An investigation is ongoing.
Police say what may have seemed like an innocent prank could have resulted in a much more serious incident.
Anyone with information should contact the Central Hastings Detachment at 1-888-310-1122 and refer to incident E250173520.
