A youth has been charged after a knife was pulled at a school in Quinte West on Wednesday.
In the afternoon, an agitated student displayed a knife in a classroom at Murray Centennial Public School on County Road 40.
The student threatened to harm staff and other students.
OPP were called to the scene to investigate.
The student has since been expelled.
A youth from the Quinte Area was arrested and charged with:
- Assault with a weapon;
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
The accused has been released with a future court date. The name of the youth is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Mental health workers are at the school today.
Executive Officer Greg Kidd with the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board calls it “a very concerning incident for the school and families.”
Principal Brandi Hollinger says, “The safety of our students is always foremost in our minds, and we are thankful the incident was resolved without injury to any parties.”
