A very familiar face is is the new Interim Executive Director of the Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward (HSHPE).
The Humane Society’s Board of Directors has appointed Chris Barry, the former Deputy Chief of the Belleville Police Service to lead the organization, commencing immediately.
Barry who recently retired after 32 years with BPS, previously spent seven years as a board member with the Humane Society.
“We are pleased to welcome Chris back to the Humane Society to share his vast knowledge and experiences with the board, volunteers, donors and staff,” stated Greg Sudds, Chair, HSHPE Board of Directors. “As we all know, Chris has and continues in many roles caring for the well-being of the community. In addition, he has an enormous compassion for animals, especially those in need, as well as for the education and prevention of animal cruelty.”
Barry was the first honorary member of HSHPE’s Circle of Friends.
“I am very proud of our Humane Society. This organization, with the unwavering support of the communities it serves, has realized what other shelters can only dream of achieving,” stated Barry. “I am looking forward to working with our devoted and professional caregivers and administrative staff and to assist the board of directors with the mandate to fulfill its commitment to the community – to be beneficial for both ends of the leash.”
Barry takes over following the departure of Kareen McKinnon.
Sudds added, “We look forward to working with Chris and our community to continue to make our shelter a very welcoming, safe and comforting place for our companions in need until we find them their forever loving home.”
