Quinte West Fire members were on the Trent River Wednesday, but is was far from a leisurely stop on the waterway.
Around 11:15 a.m., members from Station 7 in Frankford responded to Rosebush Road and McGuire Lane, for a dog stuck on an ice flow.
Fire Chief John Whalen says crews wrote out a rescue plan, with one crew being deployed to the water, with another remaining on land.
Whalen says there were Good Samaritans considering entering the waterway before fire members arrived, however, Whalen says it is never a good idea to enter ice flows near open water, without proper training or equipment.
The two-year-old Golden Lab was rescued.
