As the new year begins, Quinte News spoke with Northumberland-Peterborough MPP and Ontario’s Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development David Piccini.
Piccini says the priorities for 2025 centre around infrastructure investments.
“My priorities locally are a new hospital in Campbellford. We have been really working hard to get that over the finish line,” Piccini tells Quinte News.
“(We’re) working on a new school in our community as well. Infrastructure funding announcements in Cobourg, we’re working for investments in Brighton as well to support new housing growth so that people can have a place to call home.”
Piccini says he also wants to maintain a business-friendly environment while also engaging closely with the local community.
“We need to create an environment like we’ve done here in Ontario, where we haven’t raised the tax to support job growth,” Piccini said.
“This includes Baxter’s Bakery in Cobourg to round out 2024 for 52 new jobs, new investments there.”
Piccini also wrapped up with a look at the Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development portfolio.
“In our portfolio, we’re going to keep supporting men and women entering the trades, investing in better training, better jobs, bigger paychecks. It’s how we’ve got to tackle the productivity decline in this country, to support people with better training,” Piccini said.
“We’ve gotta keep making investments to support people to have dignity and a paycheck and have a place to call home.”
