We’re almost into the new year and the mayor of Centre Hastings is hoping the federal goverment soon comes through with some cash to support more residential building in the community.
Tom Deline says Centre Hastings council applied for $2.6 million from the Housing Accelerator Fund in that program’s second application round.

“That will support approximately, with our servicing aspect, 250 more housing units over and above what we’ve already approved.”
Mayor Deline says a major project coming in the new year will be the reconstruction with municipal services of St. Lawrence Street East in Madoc from the four corners out to the east end of the village.
Meanwhile, Community Safety Zones where speed limits are lowered on stretches of certain streets and roads have become very common in the recent past.
And Deline says council is considering a Community Safety Zone for Highway 62 in Madoc from the skatepark through the downtown.
However, he isn’t too keen on setting up cameras to nab speeders in that zone.
“We haven’t gotten into the aspect of looking at cameras and all that stuff yet. We’re still rural so I don’t know what council would think but personally I don’t think we’d go quite that far with it.”
Meanwhile, a couple of commercial buildings in downtown Madoc will be renovated into apartments next year, something Deline is welcoming.
He also says the Sills Road bridge will be rehabilitated in 2025.
