Belleville City Council approved a revision to the speed limit on Elmwood Drive at its meeting on Monday.
A report from the Transportation Committee recommends that the speed limit be changed to 40 km/h on Elmwood Drive between Airport Pkwy and a point 1.2 kilometres south of Airport Pkwy and 60 km/h between Old Highway 2 and a point 1.2 kilometres south of Airport Pkwy.
This comes after the committee received a letter from Seeds and Sprouts Childcare Centre discussing concerns for children and employees of the centre who frequently walk the road during the day.
A petition was issued to households within the limits of the proposed speed limit change.
It was returned to staff with 45% support for the proposed speed limit reduction, greater than the minimum 30% support required as outlined in the Transportation Committee Terms of Reference for a warranted speed limit change request.
