It was a double overtime thriller in Wellington, as the Trenton Golden Hawks were able to beat the Wellington Dukes 6-5 in the latest Battle of Quinte.
After the G-Hawks headed into the third period with a 3-2 lead, the Wellington Dukes were able to tally three goals to take a 5-3 lead late into the period off the sticks of Kyle Kavc, Ethan Murray, and Jared McNeill.
However, in the 18th minute of the third period, the Golden Hawks were able to tie it up thanks to goals from Cooper Matthews and David Fournier.
One overtime period couldn’t do it, but Fournier was able to score his third of the game and the game winner in double OT, extending the Golden Hawks’ winning streak to 13 games.
They go on the road today to take on the Mississauga Chargers at the Port Credit Memorial Arena. Puck drop is at 7:45 p.m.
Meantime, the Wellington Dukes continue their home stand when they welcome the Haliburton County Huskies to town on Sunday. Puck drop will be 2:30 p.m.
