The Board of Health for the Hastings Prince Edward Public Health Unit approved its 2025 budget at a meeting on Wednesday, but it will likely not be the final version of the budget, due to the approval of the merger with two other health units that was made at the same meeting.
A report from the finance committee outlines a six per cent municipal levy increase and use of reserves to help maintain its full time equivalent (FTE) staff.
Speaking with media after the meeting, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ethan Toumishey said that while the exact number is still to be finalized, the health unit is expecting that the municipal levy increase will see less of an increase once funding from the merger arrives.
