Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory’s Ben Maracle has been named the recipient of the Ontario University Athletics Russ Jackson Award.
Maracle is the football quarterback of the Ottawa University Gee-Gees.
The Russ Jackson award is presented to the player who best exemplifies the attributes of football skill, academic achievement and citizenship.
Maracle, a St. Theresa Catholic Secondary School graduate helped organize football camps for Indigenous Youth for the CFL’s Ottawa Redblacks and the Toronto Argonauts.
That included a free camp with three Argo players in Tyendinaga in July.
Ben Maracle received the award on November 7.
He majored in Psychology at Ottawa University.
Russ Jackson played 12 seasons in the CFL and is generally considered the best Canadian quarterback to play in the league.
He led the Ottawa Roughriders to three Grey Cup championships.
