A famed member of the 1959 Belleville McFarlands has died.
Peter Conacher was part of one of the most famous athletic families in Canadian history.
His father Charlie Conacher was a Stanley Cup champion and a Toronto Maple Leafs legend.
His cousin Brian Conacher was part of Toronto’s 1967 Leafs Stanley Cup winning team and his uncle Roy was a two-time cup champ with Boston.
He was also the nephew of Lionel Conacher, who was a multi-sport athlete, and named the Athlete of the Half Century in Canada between 1900 and 1950.
Peter Conacher spent time in the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks, the New York Rangers, and even a short time with the Leafs.
He then came to Belleville where he represented Canada with the McFarlands, in what was then called Czechoslovakia.
This was following their 1958 Allan Cup, which was awarded to the national senior men’s team champion.
He would score ten points in the World Championships and the McFarlands would bring home the international title.
Conacher would also help to set up the NHL Oldtimers. They raise money for groups, charities, and organizations.
Peter Conacher was 92.
