Quinte News has learned the name of the brave Belleville police officer who entered a smoky house fire and rescued an elderly woman on Thanksgiving Monday afternoon.
That officer is Sergeant Brad Stitt.
He was first to arrive at the Purdy Street house fire and had to go down into a basement to carry the woman out despite heavy smoke.
Firefighters helped another man out of the residence shortly after.
The home was heavily damaged and the Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating.
