Quinte West City Council approved a decision on the Water and Wastewater Rate to be implemented on January 1, 2025.
This comes after a Water and Wastewater Rate Study was done to re-evaluate the rate structure and ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the water and wastewater systems in Quinte West.
Council approved going forward with Option 1 laid out in a report by the city’s Director of Finance, Caleb DenOuden.
Option 1 maintains the current service level it provides meaning that pipe age, pipe breaks and sewer backups will remain relatively flat over the next ten years. As well, a pipe relining program can be started to address high levels of water loss and wastewater inflow and infiltration.
The following chart was provided to show how the rate increase for Water and Wastewater would be implemented based on projections:
A by-law will be brought forward at a special council meeting set for October 30, 2024 to officially set the Water and Wastewater rates outlined.
