Lennox & Addington OPP charged five drivers with stunt driving over the Thanksgiving weekend.
On October 12, 2024, just after 3 a.m., police were conducting speed enforcement on Highway 401 near Napanee. Police observed a vehicle travelling east at 150 km/hr and stopped the vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old male, from Brampton, was charged with:
- Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Provincial Offences Court in Greater Napanee at a later date. The accused had his licence suspended for 30 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
On October 12, 2024, just before 5 a.m., police were conducting speed enforcement on Highway 401 in Loyalist Township. Police observed a vehicle travelling east at 155 km/hr and stopped the vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old male, from Brampton, was charged with:
- Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Provincial Offences Court in Greater Napanee at a later date. The accused had his licence suspended for 30 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
On October 12, 2024, just after 12 noon, police were conducting speed enforcement on Highway 41 in Addington Highlands Township. Police observed a vehicle travelling south at 140 km/hr and stopped the vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, a 63-year-old male from Killaloe was charged with:
- Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Provincial Offences Court in Greater Napanee at a later date. The accused had his licence suspended for 30 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
On October 14, 2024, Just after midnight, police received a report of two vehicles travelling at a high rate of speed, possibly racing, on Highway 401 east towards Napanee. The vehicles passed police travelling at 200 km/hr. Both vehicles were stopped just east of the Highway 41 exit.
As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old male from Kingston, and a 58-year-old male from Kanata were each charged with:
- Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed
Both accused are scheduled to appear at the Provincial Offences Court in Greater Napanee at a later date. Both accused had their licences suspended for 30 days, and the vehicles were impounded for 14 days.
OPP say despite Ontario implementing stiffer stunt driving laws in 2021, some motorists are still not deterred and continue to put others’ lives at risk. Lennox & Addington OPP Detachment Commander Dave Tovell adds, “These driving acts are dangerous and reckless and show no regard for the safety of other motorists using our highways. Police need public help and you are encouraged to call 911 when you observe any driving that puts others at risk.”
