Downtown Belleville will be lit with lanterns Tuesday, October 22 for the second annual Royal LePage Shelter Foundation Night Light walk.
Belleville was one of a handful of communities to host a pilot event last year and its success has helped it expand to 11 cities across Canada this year.
Local organizer Stacey O’Donoghue of Royal LePage says they are hosting a 3 km walk on a lit path raising funds to support women and children who are victims of violence.
Funds raised from the event stay local.
“So, for us here in Belleville, we will be directly supporting Three Oaks Foundation. One hundred per cent of all proceeds will go to the Three Oaks Foundation or to programs that support that foundation.”
Last year’s event raised more than $40,000.
“We had great involvement. We had over 80 people show up. I think this year right now, we’ve got well over a hundred and some odd people that are going to be with us this year.”
O’Donoghue says they hope this year’s event can raise $46,000 for Three Oaks.
The event begins at 6:15 p.m. at the Empire Theatre with speeches from Three Oaks and Royal LePage representatives.
