Prince Edward County is one of three municipalities in Southeastern Ontario offering a six-month, paid Municipal Climate Internship (MCI).
Applications are currently being accepted for the internship, hosted by Environment Leadership Canada (ELC).
The MCI provides three young environmental leaders, age 18-30, with the opportunity to work and learn alongside semi-rural municipalities in Southeastern Ontario that are invested in advancing local climate change solutions.
From January 2025 – July 2025, the intern will develop a deep understanding of how the municipality operates and contribute to Prince Edward County’s work to tackle climate change.
Most interns will perform a variety of tasks for their municipality possibly including researching municipal climate mitigation or adaptation solutions, planning for stakeholder engagement events, preparing information needed for a presentation at a council meeting, compiling information for GHG emissions inventories and writing or updating reports on climate action plans.
The successful candidate will become well-versed in municipal government and politics through research, communications, mentorship, and project work.
The application deadline is Thursday, October 31.
The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville and City of Kawartha Lakes will also host interns.
The full intern job description and instructions on how to apply are available on ELC’s website.
Questions can be directed to mci@environmentalleadership.ca.
In 2021, Prince Edward County joined the Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program, a national network of more than 400 municipalities with the shared goal of taking action against climate change and reducing local greenhouse gas emissions.
As a member of the PCP program, the municipality is committed to moving through the five-step milestone framework. The municipality is currently on step three, which involves developing a local climate action plan.
