Wine Makers in Prince Edward County aren’t happy with the proposed official plan.
Dan Sullivan, from the Prince Edward County Wine Grower’s Association, spoke to council during Tuesday’s meeting about the negative impacts the proposed official plan on the local winemaking industry.
Sullivan’s main complaint was that the new plan calls for effectively a two per cent coverage provision for wineries, which is much lower than other municipalities. In his deputation to council, he said that most other jurisdictions have double this or more, up to 10 per cent.
He also noted that this coverage allowance also includes all aspects of the winery business, from production and farming, to hospitality and warehouse storage.
In his deputation, he said the plan would harm local growers, and reduce sustainability in the industry.
Council received the deputation, but took no action on it at this time.
