Brighton council will consider following in Quinte West council’s footsteps and implement a Physician Retention Program.
Under the proposed plan, qualifying doctors can receive $10,000 per year to remain practising in the area after completing their five-year recruitment commitment.
Other qualifications are that the physician must practise family medicine and have an existing roster of at least 1,000 patients.
Currently, family doctors under the recruitment program receive $20,000 a year for five years of practice in the community.
Monday, Brighton council asked staff to seek advice regarding any legal restrictions on offering such a program and to bring the matter to 2025 budget discussions.
