A few months ago, Garrett Pilon scored the biggest goal for the Belleville Senators.
It was the B-Sens’ first playoff series win and gave the community the biggest moment in the club’s eight-year history.
Now the Calder Cup Champion will wear the “C” for the American Hockey League’s Senators.
On Wednesday, General Manager Ryan Bowness and Coach David Bell presented #22 as the leader for the 2024-25 season.
Bowness says it was not just what Pilon did last season that lead them to this decision.
“We need to provide prospects with a solid veteran presence. Garret comes from a winning organization in Jersey and we knew we were getting a champion. Getting to know him for the last several months and watching how he prepares, how he carries himself, his focus on the little things, and what he does on the ice, Coach Bell and I were on the same page.”

Coach David Bell says he does so many things well on the ice.
“Whether it’s the big goal, or putting his body in harm’s way to get the puck out, wins the key faceoff. Whether it’s an exhibition game or OT in the playoffs, he makes the right play at the right moment.”
Pilon says he is not a vocal guy, so he needs to lead by example. He says he is honoured to wear the “C.”
“We have a really good group of guys in here. Especially for the returning guys, we saw how fun it was to win a playoff series last year. Obviously the goal is to not only make it, but go far. Getting to know you guys, we have a good group in here. It’s a long one so let’s stick together and have a great year.”
