Soccer players from the Maritimes, British Columbia, and the even the Northwest Territories are calling the City of Quinte West home for the next week.
The municipality is hosting the Boys and Girls U-15 Soccer Canada Toyota National Championships.
All games are being held at Centennial Park in Trenton starting Wednesday afternoon. The championships will round out the tournament on Monday.
Jenn Rushlow, the Tourism and Special Events Officer for the City of Quinte West says the park will be very busy.
“There are multiple games a day, at least 10 games per day Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Then we start the playoffs on Saturday, Sunday, Monday.”
The municipality has made a sizeable investment in the soccer pitches, the sod, and the entire park. Rushlow says the tournament will leave a legacy for many decades to come.
“This has been an opportunity to be able to do that and make that investment, really make it a show piece. They’re (organizers and players) are pretty impressed with what we have here.”
She says there is no cost to watch the incredible action.
“The games are all free to watch. We also have an exciting little area where kids can come and play games and there’s some vendors, food vendors and that kind of thing. So it’s all going to come together in a big festival atmosphere.”
