Wednesday’s Kids Can’t Wait Radiothon, heard on nine local radio stations including CJBQ, MIX97, and ROCK107 was a huge success.
With donations still coming in from other special events, over $70,000 was raised for The Children’s Foundation which provides programming and supports for disadvantaged children in Hastings, Prince Edward, and Northumberland Counties.
Chair of The Children’s Foundation Cassandra Bonn said the community’s support was overwhelming, adding the radiothon has raised the foundation’s profile among the public.
“When we started this five years ago I can tell you that so many people that I spoke to said they had no idea what The Children’s Foundation does and the impact it has on youth and families in our community.”
Executive Director of The Children’s Foundation Melanie Cressman thanked the many volunteers and her staff for their hard work but stressed how crucial it was to have the radio stations’ support.
“The value there is in having a platform to tell your stories all day long … that’s priceless … and I don’t even know how you put a value on that.”
An announcement with the final fundraising total is expected within a few days.
Last year’s Radiothon raised around $60,000.
