Belleville Fire and Emergency Services is hosting an open house as part of Fire Prevention Week.
Fire Prevention Week is coming up October 6 to 12 and Belleville Fire will welcome the public to Fire Station 3 on Old Highway 2 on October 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Attendees can enjoy a free lunch, visit with Sparky, tour fire trucks and the fire hall, take part in fire extinguisher demonstrations and meet the Belleville fire team.
Kids can also explore the inflatable fire safety house where they will learn about different fire hazards and how to protect themselves from danger.
This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is “Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!” – aiming to bring attention to the importance of having working smoke alarms in the home.
“Working smoke alarms can make a life-saving difference in a home fire, giving people the time they need to get out safely,” said Fire Prevention Officer Richard Quick. “This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign is a great way to remind everyone to make sure their smoke alarms are in good working order, testing them every month and replacing them at least every ten years.”
“In the event of a fire, you could have as little as two minutes to escape your home after a smoke alarm sounds,” said Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Services Dan Smith. “Working smoke alarms cut the risk of fatal house fires in half. On behalf of BFES, I would like to encourage all residents to take part in this Fire Prevention Week and ensure they are prepared in the event of an emergency.”
