It’s a time to reflect on the harms done by the Indian Residential School system in Canada, harms that continue to this very day.
This Monday September 30 is National Truth and Reconciliation Day and a federal statutory holiday from coast to coast.
And the City of Belleville is again inviting the public to a special event in Market Square.
Guest speakers include Chief R. Don Maracle of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte, residential school survivor Wilbur Maracle, and Indigenous artist Angela Wiggins.
There will be musical performances as well and everyone is encouraged to wear orange.
The event begins at 11 a.m.
