It appears Margaret Seu will fill the vacancy left by Tyler Allsopp on Belleville City Council.
Allsopp won the Bay of Quinte provincial by-election on Thursday and will now represent the region as MPP at Queen’s Park.
Speaking on CJBQ’s Lorne Brooker Show Friday, Belleville Mayor Neil Ellis says he’s spoken with Seu already and she is ready to step in.
Seu was the next highest vote-getter in Ward 1 in the 2022 municipal election.
Though council is meeting this Monday, Ellis says the issue will likely be dealt with at the next meeting in early October.
“And I will put Margaret on the floor as a motion. She’ll need a seconder and I would think she’ll get it and there’ll be, I would say, you know, very little, if any discussion. We’ll call the vote and she’s got a chair around the table.”
Seu’s addition to council would see the number of councillors split evenly among men and women as she would join Kathryn Brown, Lisa Anne Chatten and Barbara Enright-Miller at City Hall.
