The number of people collecting employment insurance cheques in the area is on an upward trend.
According to Statistics Canada there were 1,160 people receiving employment insurance in July in the Belleville-Quinte West Census Metropolitan Area (CMA), up by 70 from June.
On a year-to-year basis there was a 22 per cent increase from July of 2023 when only 950 people were benefitting from the program.
The Belleville-Quinte West CMA consists of Belleville, Quinte West, Stirling-Rawdon, and Tyendinaga/Deseronto.
