There’s been good and bad news for Belleville police when it comes to calls for service.
Continuing a trend from the first three months of the year, the number of calls for service was down by 559 or seven per cent in the second quarter when compared to last year.
However, the bad news is that officers have been dealing with much more serious crimes than in the same period in 2023.
In the second quarter, there was one second degree murder charge, along with one manslaughter and two attempt murder charges.
Last year there were none.
The number of weapons offences was up slightly in the second quarter from 2023 while the number of robberies, at nine, was almost double the number from last year.
There were fewer motor vehicle thefts, sex offences, and frauds.
However, incidents involving criminal harassment, totalling 44, were up by 76 per cent.
