Quinte West is preparing a new plan to hold on to it’s doctors.
During Wednesday’s council meeting, council received a report from staff with a framework to establish a retention incentive to keep doctors from leaving the area.
While similar projects have been discussed in other municipalities, the report was unable to find a similar program that had been implemented.
Under the proposed plan, qualifying doctors can receive $10,000 per year to remain practicing in the area. To qualify, doctors must be practicing family medicine, have a patient roster of at least 1000 patients, and not be under a recruitment agreement.
Council voted to direct staff to develop and prepare the retention plan for implementation.
